Welcome and bon appetit!

Welcome to my brand new blog!

This blog is going to be all about one of my favorite hobbies in life: eating. As my brother once told me, "Allison, people either eat to live or live to eat. I eat to live. You live to eat." To which I replied, "Exactly! I feel so bad for you, you're missing out on so much!"

So if you share my love of good food, good wine, and good friends and are proud to admit that you never (well, hardly ever) eat at chain restaurants, this blog is for you!

This will not be a traditional "restaurant review" site, as there are plenty of those already. Plus, I'm not a food critic or anything, just someone who travels a lot around the state of Connecticut and likes to find interesting food. What I'm going to do is post my recommendations of good restaurants I've visited, categorized by cuisine. I'll describe the food, atmosphere, and value of each restaurant and give my opinion on what occasion it's best suited for.

In addition, I'll be posting reviews of recipes from books and online that I've attempted and (sometimes!) succeeded in making. If you have any requests for recipes or cuisines that you want to see me write about, post them in the comments. Of course, I'm always on the lookout for new recipes and restaurants to try, so share them with me as well.

And, to channel every foodie's heroine, Julia Child...bon appetit!

  1. I went to Churruscaria Braza, a Brazilian steakhouse, in West Hartford a few weeks ago. It has all you can eat meats, hot bar and a salad bar (not regular salad, unique pasta salads, etc.). It is SO good.

  2. Awesome! I've actually been wanting to go there for awhile now, but haven't gotten around to it.

Are there any good places around your area, if I come visit? ;)

  3. Um, there is a Mexican place called Tequila's in Waterbury, which has pretty good Mexican food. Um...well actually, there are a lot of places in Waterbury that are probably good, but I haven't been to most of them. There is nothing in Wolcott, lol, but Waterbury is right near me. There is a good BBQ place in Hamden, I went to, but I don't remember the name of it.

Also, Southington has Praline's ice cream and Hamden has Wentworth's, both very good if you like homemade ice cream.

  4. Oh, and there is the Taste of Hartford from August 1 - 14th, if you wanna go. I've gone twice to the same place, Tisane. They always have really cool, unique eclectic stuff there.

I volunteer in Hartford on Tuesdays, so if you wanted to meet for dinner there at one of their million restaurants one Tuesday, that would be fun!

  5. Ah, I love Tisane's. Also I'd definitely be up for the Taste of Hartford!

I'm actually going to be out your way for a job interview on Monday, which is why I was asking earlier. ;)

Are you free late afternoon/early evening to hang out or go to dinner?
